THE MARCH 2003 TRIP TO LAS VEGAS
We all had a great time in Vegas. All arrived and returned home safe. Hotel had just finished being refurbished and all in great shape. Good food, good show and plenty to do. Gambling of all sorts, reasonable restaurants of all sorts, many bars, a good free lounge show, exercise room, bowling alley and more than enough to do. Our group of 50 got special recognition at the Show. Then after the show a top hotel person thanked us for coming. A big variety of gambling was available.

Many classmates did pickups and returns to airport, went on different trips, pairing up with other classmates. Bought carnations for each Dinner show person, great name tags for everyone, Carol M received $300 for mailings she has paid for in past, plenty of refreshments brought in by classmates, special open house at Karen and Jerry's room with a special drink, Fred, Deanna, John, Romilda riding in a romantic Gondola at the Venetian, Cassidy springing for ordurs and drinks for 12 of us, Cassidy getting a pic with 5 different lady classmates, the Hoover Dam tour people talking about sexual things - 5 boys and 2 girls - they won't tell they said but we are squeezing it out. Something about the mile hi club etc. Sharon Stevens Cox being so funny and gracious, Devore getting kissed on his bald head by show girl (he will keep these perfect lip marks for a long time!), McVicker getting his hair played with, good class meeting in conference room acquired by Fred, showgirls making eyes at Cal, Fred, Denny and others. Carol Gratsos Howell selling 11 books - getting $330 for herself and giving $55 to the class treasury. Also Carol Wildman, our classmate travel agent, gave us prices on several different cruises.

Carol Muscorella will let us know about the possible cruises - trips and prices and time of year that we are talking about. We had so much fun that everyone wants more trips together. We now have so many good close classmate friends and we are all the same age. We have Carol Handy and Marilyn Spitz with their 48th. anniversaries this year.

We missed Don and Norma Boggs that were under the weather and Ron & Taeko Frazier - Ron had to leave for Thailand to finish a movie. We will have more trips so any one with an idea let Carol or Denny know.

Many new pictures will be added to classmates web pages and many just showing the fun we had. Please send in your Bio to Carol or Terry and check out both of our web sites often.

Regards, Denny Grossman JBHS 55 Reunion Secretary

I just wanted to thank Denny for all the work he did over the four day period in Vegas. All had a terrific time which could be witnessed by all the smiling and laughing that took place. I know those of us that went are closer than we probably ever have been because of it. And for those of you who were not on the bus, did you miss out on the singing!!! I'll never forget any of it.

Sincerely,

Fred Roth

Hi Denny &Carol,

I would like to thank you two and those that helped you setup and conduct our Las Vegas trip. Carol, I would like to thank you in particular, for locating the class members and getting us to participate in this trip. Denny, I would like to thank you for your endless efforts in largely running the minute-by-minute details of our trip and your worry about all of us and our needs. I feel that you were so busy that you could not fully enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Thanks again!

Ken Konopasek

Denny and Carolyn -- And all your Helpers

Just wanted to thank you both for all the work you are doing to organize these reunions. Looking up all our classmates is quite a task and then keeping current on addresses, etc., after you do find them. All Denny's e-mails with current information on the LV reunion were great. The Web sites are fantastic. We had a fun time renewing friendships and enjoying a good dinner. Sorry we couldn't get back into town on Monday night, but our committments wouldn't permit. Glad everyone enjoyed the Monday dinner and show and hope all have a safe journey back to their homes.

Thank you.....

Bonnie and Doug Shaw

Denny,

I didn't know you were a gross man. I just want to say thanks for such a wonderful time in Vegas. We loved it. I saw some people that I haven't seen in almost 50 years. They recognized me, but I didn't recognize them. I did Marilyn Spitz after I started talking to her because she looks just like her mother. She saw me coming thru the door in the hospitality room and was smiling at me and I wondered if I should know her so I walked over to her and she started talking to me and there were hugs and kisses and tears. There were more hugs and kisses when I saw Ed Swink because I haven't seen him since high school. He looked at me and said, "hi, Darlene". Then there were more hugs and kisses. You did a great job. Now, could you please send me a list of everybody's addresses and phone numbers? I want to get ahold of Rod Smith because he and Earl Williams and I went all thru school together from Kindergarten. We're like family now. I need e-mail addresses, too.

Thanks a lot.

Darlene

The following was submitted by Cal Roe

Many of the JBHS class of 1955 classmates gathered near the registration area on Monday morning. Fred Roth took a large group who wanted to see the Las Vegas Strip, and this left seven going to the Hoover Dam tour. I had our Dodge Grand Caravan that will hold 7, if we wanted to get cozy. I, Cal Roe, was driving, Bill Biewiener was shotgun, Freda Dyche and David McVicker were in the center seats, and Grant Shroyer, Ronetta Scott, and Chuck Devore were in the back seat. Duke Ducasse gave me great directions, the air conditioning worked well, Ronetta was squeezed between Grant and Chuck, and did not complain once.

The conversations during the trip to the dam were dominated by Dave, Freda and Chuck, and I can not remember the many of the subjects discussed other than family and employment. We sailed through the security check, and parked. I got into the first line I saw expecting to pay $8.50 for the senior fee. After about 5 minutes in this line I noticed this line was for FOOD, not a tour ticket. Big laugh on me.

Down the hill we went, through another security check, bought our senior tickets, and joined what I thought was a large crowd for a Monday morning. We then entered a large theater where they had a 15 minute slide show presentation about the construction of the dam. Then we entered an elevator that held about 30 people and we went 500 feet down into the dam to the generator observation platform. We all took many photos, and returned back up to the sun light. Then to the overlook, from the back side of the dam, and more photos. We had to keep looking for Dave as he shot several rolls of film and was always lagging behind. So we visited while someone looked for Dave. Then we went into the old original presentation room where they put on a light show from the 1940's, telling the story of the Colorado river. This was to me the most interesting section of the tour. Then off to the ice cream shop, find Dave and Bill, and back into the van.

On the way back to Vegas, Dave raved about Freda's love poems he had read in the hospitality room. This lead to more conversations about our love lives, and eventually Freda telling she had joined the "Mile High Club" on the Concord during their honeymoon trip to Paris. Later, David had explained his loves lost and indicated he does enjoy a "Girlie Show" now and then. Many laughs were made, and a great time was had by all.

And so much for the great van dam tour of 2003 by the JBHS class of 1955.
