PEGGY O'BRIEN HOLMES and DAVE

PEGGY O'BRIEN HOMES

After graduation I attended Valley College and graduated in 1963. 1 married my high school sweetheart, Dave Holmes (Van Nuys H.S.) in 1958. Of course, I worked at Lockheed Missiles & Space Co. for several years as secretary to the senior buyers and purchasing agent in the Purchasing Dept. Our first child Brian was born in 1961, Deborah in 1964 and Kelly in 1968. 1 stayed at home during the child rearing days and was very active in all their schools; etc. PTA Vice-President and served on many committees and advisory councils. With children almost grown I returned to work, first as office manager at Western Psychological Center in Encino and ultimately went into real estate in the S.F. Valley for about ten years.

Dave worked at Lockheed Aircraft Co. for 39 years as an electrical/flight test engineer. He spent many years in the Skunk Works. During that period I didn't know much about what he was doing or where he was. Later I found out he was working on the F117 and was very fortunate to have been put thru flight school and learned to fly military aircraft. What a surprise to me!

Our family took to sailing in a big way in the early 70's and that became our vacations for many years while the kids were growing up. We started with a home built I I ft. Mirror Dingy, then a 25 ft. Venture, Catalina 30 and ultimately a Catalina 36 which we sold when we moved to Georgia in 1991. Many a vacation was spent on Catalina Island or up and down the CA coast. Our boats were docked at Marina Del Rey, and it became our second home for over 15 years. All of our family became accomplished sailors and still very much enjoy sailing. Since retiring, Dave has built another I I ft. Mirror Dingy and he hopes to teach our grandchildren to sail.

Lockheed transferred us to Georgia in 1991 and transferred us back home to "good old CA" in 1999. We very much enjoyed the South and all of its history but did not enjoy their HUMIDITY. We visited Georgia's bordering states, New York, D.C. and Boston while living there. We were very fortunate to AS enjoy the 1994 Olympics with our children who came to visit often. Because of flying privileges thru United, I was in CA probably every six weeks to see family, friends and the birth of our first two grandchildren.

When we returned to CA in 1999, Dave lived in Lancaster and worked at Edwards Air Force Base during the week and came home on weekends while I put our house in Northridge back in order. We had rented out our house while in Georgia and it was areal mess. Whatajob!! I'd retired from real estate when we moved to Georgia and did not return to work. To keep busy I joined several women's clubs, volunteered and Granada High School, continued playing lots of bridge, which I learned while in Georgia, and took up playing golf again. Dave retired from Lockheed as Manager of Avionics Flight Test in 2001 and returned to Northridge. We sold our home in Northridge and moved to Wood Ranch in Simi Valley in April of 2003. We love our newer house and enjoy looking at the hills and walking on the many trails around our home.

Needless to say, we are very proud of our three children. Brian graduated UCLA and is CEO of his own financial company, Deborah graduated CSUN and is a pilot for United Airlines and Kelly graduated from CSULB and was a top salesman for OrthoCare. Brian and Lisa have a son (8 yrs) and daughter (6 yrs) and live in Malibu; Deborah and Kevin have two sons (2 1/2and 6 months) and live in Kentfield (S.F.); and Kelly and Tory have a year and half old daughter and live in Cardiff by the Sea. (S.D.). Both daughters and daughter in-law are lucky enough to be staying home to raise their children. It goes without saying that our grandchildren are the most wonderful children and the pride of our lives.

Over the years we have always loved to travel and, of course, with retirement we're enjoying it more. We have taken cruises to Alaska, southern Caribbean, western Caribbean, and thru the Panama Canal. We toured the English Isles, including England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Last year we spent 21 days in Spain and in September we have a two-week trip planned to Italy. Hawaii is still one of our most favorite places to vacation and we were there to welcome in 2004 with our son and his family.

Fortunately, we are in good health and very much enjoying our retirement with family, bridge, golf and traveling and I can't believe that 50 years have gone by since graduating from high school. I'm looking forward to our 50 1h Reunion next year. See "you all" there.
