DONNA NISBET HAMMOND and RAY
My Biography

Ray and I were married on December 28, 1954 and recently celebrated our 50th. Wedding Anniversary. He was in the Marine Corps and received orders to be shipped to the Pacific. Fortunately his orders turned out to report to Hawaii. I was able to join him in February 1955. We had a very exciting first year of marriage on the island of Oahu. In March 1956 I returned home to Burbank to await the birth of our first child, a daughter. My Husband's tour of duty with the Marine Corps ended in mid-June and he arrived home for the birth of our daughter.

We spent the next year living in Columbus, Ohio, where my husband was born and raised. We returned to California in 1957 and bought our first home in Hacienda Heights. We had 2 more children, a son Martin in 1959 and another son Donald in 1961.

During the years our children were growing up we spent vacations each summer camping and fishing at many lakes in the Sierras. One of our favorites was Lake Lundy, just above Lee Vining. We also enjoyed fishing at Lake Mary and Lake George in the Mammoth Lakes area.

In 1957 I went to work for Stuarts Pharmaceutical Company in Pasadena doing data entry. In 1959 I went to work for Carrier Corporation in the City of Industry, which was much closer to home. Eventually, in 1964, I obtained a job with the Ford Motor Company at their Pico Rivera Assembly Plant location. I spent the next 30 1/2 years with Ford doing a variety of jobs. Starting out in Data Processing, promoted to Payroll, then moving into Budgets. In 1980 the Pico Rivera Assembly Plant closed and I moved to the Lincoln Mecury Sales Division of Ford where I spent the next 14 years working as Secretary to the Regional Sales Manager. I retired from Ford in 1995.

After retiring we moved to Sun City Summerlin in Las Vegas where two of our children and their families live. We have seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. We enjoy many of the activities this community has to offer. I joined the Senior Ladies Softball League. We qualified and attended two National Senior Olympics competitions in the four years I played with the team. I hung up my mitt after I broke my leg. I took up golfing which is a little easier on an "old lady". Since we retired we spend as much time as possible camping and fishing in our RV.
