DARRELL ILLIAN HOSTETLER and DICK
My Biography

If you search thru the 1955 Akela, looking for my graduation picture or for that matter any class photo, you will not find one. My last year of school attendance at Burroughs was the completion of my junior year in 1954 due to my parents attempt to save their marriage by relocating the family to a new location in Alias Canyon near Acton, CA. From there I finished my high school education by attending Antelope Valley in Lancaster. Since I had received the bulk of my schooling in Burbank, (Roosevelt and Jordan) prior to Burroughs, I have always looked upon the class of '55 as my own.

In January of '55 I married my school sweetheart, Dick (Class of '54), who was stationed in San Diego with the Navy. We had a brief honeymoon in Santa Barbara prior to my return to school and his departing for overseas duty. Upon completion of his service we settled in the Glendale area for a short period before finding an apartment in Burbank where I gave birth to our second child. My grandmother purchased some rental properties near her home in Glendale so we soon found ourselves returning there. While there I had our third child (daughter) and our family now consisted of the two girls and a son born while serving in the navy.

Dick completed his four years of electrical training and we soon purchased our first home in Canoga Park where we lived for eight years prior to our move to Simi Valley and our current address. He spent eighteen years working as a union electrician before accepting a position with the CA. State University system where he attained the stature as a physical plant mgr. before his early retirement in 92 due to health problems.

We were blessed with four grandchildren (two boys/two girls) and as yet no greats. What, out of home, work I did (after raising children) was as a waitress and bartender and later a mgr. Today my husband and I enjoy our annual trips in our RV seeing "America the Beautiful"!
