SONYA "SONNY" HOTHIAN TROMEL
and RICK

My Biography

My Mom and I drove route 66 from Wisconsin to California in 1947. I attended my sixth elementary school in Hollywood. Then after two jr. highs, I made arrangements to attend JBHS for the entire time. We continued to move every year or so...but around the school.

After high school I worked for seven years in a medical group in Hollywood. I enjoyed doing a variety of tasks as a medical assistant.

My friend set up a blind date where I met my husband Rick, of 44 years. Both of our sons (Chris 41 years and Keith 39 years) were born in Van Nuys while we lived in our first home in Canoga Park.

Rick is an engineer and his work took us to Michigan, Seattle, Ohio and Eugene, Oregon where we stayed and retired. During those years we did a great deal of camping and traveling around much of the USA. We also toured Germany and England.

After the boys went to college I went back to college to study Art History. I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity.

We chose to live in Eugene, Oregon, which has a beautiful performing arts center and excellent symphony, chamber orchestra as well as a ballet, and opera. Broadway shows visit Eugene every year. Eugene is about an hour from the coast and an hour from the mountains where Rick snowboards.

Son Chris lives in the Portland, Oregon area about two hours away. Keith is in Exeter, California about 12 hours south. They are nice grown-ups. We do not expect grandchildren.

Rick and I share interests in reading, classical music, and lots of movies. We volunteer at the library. I am a member of the Symphony Guild. We have taken a couple of cruises.

Being retired is great===with easygoing mellow days.
