ELLEN CONNOR ROBIN and ROB

Ellen Connor Robin Biography

Didn't we grow up at a great time? Playing "Kick the Can" and ball in the street, "Jacks" on the front porch, and "Hopscotch" on the sidewalk?

I started kindergarten at 4 1/2 in Bakersfield. Then we moved to Ohio for a year and I was too young to start 1st grade. Then back to Burbank, where I attended Lincoln for the rest of my elementary years, then Jordan, and of course, good old JBHS.

I had my first job at the Cornell Theater during my senior year in high school, then worked for Imperial Photo Copy Co. We worked with copies of blueprints from Lockheed & Hughes Aircraft.

I met my husband, Rob, the summer of '54 and we were married in '56. Four months later we packed all of our worldly goods in our '53 Pontiac, and moved to his home town in Michigan.

Rob found work as an office clerk for a drain pipe company that later became Hancor, Inc., and I worked in a dime store for awhile.

In 1973 Rob was office mgr. and we were transferred to Washington state. I worked at Ernst Hardware for 15 years in the advertising dept., then 9 yrs. at Hallmark, before retiring in 1999. Rob retired in '98 as plant mgr. after 41 yrs. with the same company

We have four children. Our first child, Brent, in'59, another son, Lance, in '61, our first girl, Tracey, in '62, and then another girl, Jodi, in '67. Spent many week ends and every vacation camping in various parts of the country and once to New Brunswick. We now have 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. All of our family live in Washington.

I sang with Sweet Adelines for several years after we moved here. My leisure time is spent doing crafts, taking classes, sewing, etc., and making things for our family. My latest interest is making porcelain dolls and ornaments.

Rob and I have done some traveling abroad to New Zealand and several countries in Europe in the past . We had a sailboat for a few years. Trailored it north of here and sailed around the San Juan Islands. Took it out locally for week ends and fished for salmon We now live on Puget Sound overlooking the areas we used to sail and fish. Currently we have a 5th wheel, which we use about 6-8 weeks in the spring and fall. Our cats, Digger and Jasmine, come along for the ride.

I've enjoyed reading the "Chat Line" each week. Some of you have contacted me, too. Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50th reunion.

Best regards from Olympia and stop by if you're in the neighborhood.
