LEONARD W. COHEN Biography

Left Burbank in 1955

Attended San Jose City College for I year; played baseball there and had good year

Entered San Jose State

During summer of 1956, signed contract with Pittsburgh Pirates; went on to spring training with Don Pulford to the Pirates' minor league camp 'in Anaheim, CA. Tore hamstring in right leg early into 1957 baseball season. Required surgery and was unable to play baseball.

Returned to San Jose State and worked as assistant coach to freshman baseball team for 2 years

After dropping out a couple of times, returned to Burbank and got BA from San Fernando Valley State in Northridge

Went to Army as social worker, 1962-64; spent some time in Germany

Following Army, landed in Portland, OR at Juvenile Court as a case worker

When Job Corps opened, worked at Tongue Point 'in Astoria, OR in several positions

Did graduate work at Portland State, 1964

Moved to Clearfield, UT with Thiokal Chemical's Job Corps Center; designed training materials

Accepted position with EEOC in Washington, DC

Accepted position with Educational Systems Corp. at Catholic University, Washington, DC

Came to Florida first time in 1970s; Deputy Director of Jacksonville Community Action Agency

In 1974 I bought a sailboat; went to Bahamas and taught at College of the Bahamas for 1 year; then moved to Virgin Islands for 1 year as director of evaluation of their prison system

Received doctorate in educational leadership in 1975 from Nova University

Returned to Washington, DC by sailboat and worked for ACTION Agency

In 1980 while do' some consulting for the State Department, I accepted position there Ing doing evaluations of hardship posts, mostly in Africa

In 1986 1 moved back to Jacksonville, FL as Rehabilitation Counseling Therapist for the VA and worked with individuals and groups of Vietnam veterans, most of whom had multiple mental health issues and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Retired in 1995 and began new position as househusband, waiting for my wife, Mosetta, to retire in 1999. For verification of that position, refer to enclosed picture.

On personal side, I had one "starter" marriage, two practice marriages, and on the fourth try, a 16-year honeymoon

Live in Gainesville, FL near the University of FL where my wife did graduate work. Both of us are major sports fans and attend all sports events. We do lots of bicycle riding, and I am in the Master's swim program at the University. My 2 sons are grown (please don't give them my address!), and I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement. I have had an adventurous life and have enjoyed returning to Burbank for special meetings with "the boys."
